It’s just under three weeks left until this year’s Back To The City International Hip-Hop Festival. For the 12th year in a row, thousands of people within the culture will descend on New Town, Joburg for the SA hip-hop Hajj.
This year’s theme, according to the organisers, is ‘Freedom of Self’. The team made this revelation along with the official poster and line up for this year’s festival on Friday last week.
“This has taken us three months of fighting and laughing in the office to get this line-up…the team has 14 people, meaning meetings take [up to] seven hours” the organisers said in a post revealing the line-up.
Acts you can expect to rock out to at Mary Fitzgerald square this year include the usual suspects: Rouge, Cassper Nyovest, Nadia Nakai, Emtee, Okmalumkoolkat, Riky Rick, Stogie T, Youngsta CPT, A-Reece, Yugen Blakrok, Big Star, Shane Eagle. But the highlight, for us at least, is Kid X’s set which promises to be crazy on account of him bringing out Maskandi group uShwi Nomtekhala as well as the Outrageous Records tribute by H20, Zubz, ProVerb and Optical Ill.
Apart from the dudes we just mentioned, there’s lots and lots of other emcees and DJs including the surprise international act which will be announced later this week.
