Hip-Hop only for Best Video at the SAMAS

Hip-Hop only for Best Video at the SAMAS

While a cloud of weed smoke was rising above the SA skyline last night (happy 420, y’all!) more smoke sprayed out on the stage when the music industry gathered in the East Rand for the reveal of the #SAMA23 nomination list.

Host Anele Mdoda came through to officially say who, from the 750 submissions, was accepted into the 2017 SAMAs (#SAMA23) nominations list.

The artists nominated for the 2017 SAMAS were decided by a “stringent vetting process that involved officials from the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) and record company representative [and] experts drawn from radio, TV, newspapers, blogs and the recording industry”, the official SAMAs statement said.

As foul a year as 2016 was, a lot of good music made it to radio, tv and the internets. Add to that, Hip-Hop kept on taking over the mainstream, dominating the airwaves from DStv (channels 320-327🔥🔥🔥 🔥) to the state-owned joints (shout out to Hlaudi🔥 🔥🔥)

Best rap album

And then we all watched and listened as Kwesta made drinking in the hood with rough-necks cool, AKA kept his unbelievable seven-year run going, Nasty C and Okmalumkoolkat finally dropped their albums and the shooters kept shooting hip-hop the way it’s supposed to be shot. And we loved every minute of it.
